Everybody’s talking about it

Everybody’s Talking About It!

In Ireland we are all obsessed with the weather. It gives us something to make small talk about. The recent fine spell of dry and even quite warm weather was a constant source of wonderment, but usually accompanied by predictions about the dreadful calamity that the fine weather will bring.

‘Grand weather. Three weeks of sunshine.’

‘Ah, but we’ll pay for it later. When the rain starts it won’t stop.’  And similar conversations are to be overheard in queues the length and breadth of the country.

And pay for it we will. Warm weather and sunshine ended the other Friday, during my six weekly session at the hairdressers. I went in at ten o’clock, happily wearing sandals, cargo pants and my sunglasses. An hour later, I left and was drenched before I made it the hundred yards up the road to my car. And the rain has rained ever since. Mind you, we needed it.

I was in a paint shop earlier on in the week, queuing to pay for my purchase – of a tin of paint. In Ireland, while in the company of any stranger one is obliged to make a comment about the weather. Which I did. To which the lady, noticing my accent, which is still noticeably English after 28 years of living in Ireland, asked, ‘Are you here on holiday?’ I managed to refrain from a narky reply that, ‘Yes of course what else would anyone do on holiday but buy paint?’

The paint buying and haircut excursions were squeezed in to my tight schedule around the release of the third book in the DI Grace Tallis series, which released today. Why Did He Die? is available exclusively to Amazon and is available as an e-book or paperback.

Why Did He Die?

Who hated Jago Carey enough to kill him?

The gruesome murder of Jago Carey in the staff accommodation of Park Hall, an idyllic Cornish country mansion, brings DI Grace Tallis back to work, with a new partner, DS Max Wilton.

Suspects abound. All have secrets to hide, but who loathed, feared or resented him enough to kill? The police enquiry uncovers a web of lies woven into the lives of everyone connected with Jago Carey.

As the investigation continues the beautiful land surrounding Park Hall begins to reveal more hidden horrors. As the body count rises the remains of one young woman link Jago Carey to a serial killer who was at work in the Cornish countryside almost two decades ago.  Like Eddie Hammett, his mentor, Jago had a taste for those who no one would miss.

The detectives begin to uncover the true horror hidden behind the glamourous façade, Jago Carey’s sickening craving for the vulnerable. Was Jago’s death connected to his circle of acquaintances, or to those whose lives he ended and whose unmarked graves he looked out on every day.

This is the third novel in DI Grace Tallis series, all of which are set in the stunning Cornish countryside.
